From very young Terry developed a love of animals. As a boy he kept a range of pets including rabbits, guinea pigs, rice, rats, gerbils as well as having the company of the family’s cats and dogs. At school he founded and organised a ‘Wildlife Rangers’ group (junior WWF) and was a member of the ‘Young Ornithologists Club’ (junior RSPB).
Following service in HM Forces Terry worked on a livestock farm attending agricultural college on day-release. He followed this with six years-service as an RSPCA inspector; he gained huge expertise in the care, rescue and rehabilitation of wild and domestic animals and birds. He prides himself on having worked very hard to find homes for puppies and kittens at a time when supply greatly exceeded demand.
Terry moved on to the police service. He served in various roles but particularly enjoyed being a village policeman. He gained experience as a police dog-handler and in other specialist roles.
In later years he was as a regional manager for a conservation charity and as a guidance and motivational adviser in schools and prisons. For six years he and Kate ran their own horse, pet and smallholding care service in the UK. Terry and Kate make an unbeatable team to ensure the wellbeing and happiness of your animals and maintain the security of your property.
Donkey rides on the beach started Kate’s love of horses. Growing up with cats and dogs was not enough; soon she was out walking neighbours’ dogs and caring for ponies at nearby riding schools (in the hopes of getting free rides!). At age 10 she acquired ‘Tessie’ her first pony. She joined the riding club and spent her time attending events and learning about horses. At 15 she found and rescued ‘Sam’, a cross-collie, abandoned by the roadside; when Kate left home to study for the British Horse Society assistant instructor and horse-master’s qualifications, Sam went along too.
Kate has spent many years working with horses as a riding instructor; training and schooling young horses and general yard and stable management (both in Greece and in the UK).
Kate lived in Greece for many years. The plight of worn-out donkeys and street animals led her to volunteer for work with local rescue societies. On returning to the UK Kate picked up the traces and worked as a free-lance riding instructor.
In addition to working with horses Kate has held positions of trust and authority in other roles; she has experience of leisure and tourism, running her own café-bar and managing self-catering apartments. She is HR qualified and until recently has been working as a university administrator.
For six years, together with Terry, Kate used her considerable equine and pet care skills to run a horse and pet care service in the UK. Kate and Terry now offer a comprehensive, high quality service to the horse and pet owners of Mayenne and surroundings areas!
